Home Based Business – It Is Business Versus Domestic?
Do you know what is ironic? A good percentage of us who have decided to become involved with a home based business took such measures so that we could have more time with our families. Unfortunately, many of us are finding that we have less time than we did when working a traditional job. Let us investigate why this might be happening.
When you start out with your home based business, similar to a new job, you are going to run into a learning curve. Even if your new business is in a field which is already familiar to you, expect to see things which are foreign to you. The good news is that over time, you will become more savvy at running your home based business. This will result in better efficiency and time management moving forward.
One thing that you will always need to remind yourself in the early stages of your home based business is that you are doing what others are not doing today, to have what others can only wish for tomorrow. In other words, often you will have to make sacrifices in the early stages of your business while it is still growing. Thus, you will most likely have to play the roles of secretary, marketer, and accountant, until you are profitable enough to delegate these tasks to others.
Nonetheless, there is no getting around the fact that the infancy of your home based business leaves you with a limited number of hours each day for anything else. With that being said, I have some suggestions which I think may help.
For instance, you may have children at home who have a tendency to interrupt your work flow. What is most often the case is that your children do not truly understand how busy you actually are. Thus, you can explain to your children the difference between your “work” hours, and your “home” hours. Clearly convey the fact that you are “at work” during your work hours, and should only be contacted in the case of an emergency, or during breaks.
For those of you who have children at school, make it a priority to schedule your breaks later in the day at a time when your children come home from school. That way, you can spend time with them, and work while they do their homework. Thereafter, it will probably be dinner time, which again gives you more time with your children.
Personally, I need less sleep than do the members of my family. As a result, I am able to frequently work late while my family is sleeping, or wake up early and work, also while my family sleeps.
Your exact solution will be determined by your situation. This must be done in accordance with the specific home based business you are operating. My advice to you is that you make sure that you schedule time for your family. Also, clearly communicate to all members of your family which times you are blocking out for your business activities.
The key to balancing your family life with your home based business life, is planning and communication. If you do these two things, you will be successful.
Shuffling a Home Based Business with family responsibilities is challenging. At the end of the day, you must learn how to distance your Business Opportunities from your family life. Courtesy of SOSComplete.com.
