Using Different Resume Formats
Before you decide on the type of resume format you will use, think about the type of job you are applying for as this can have a bearing on which format would work best. While there is no one right format to use, different resume formats serve different purposes; therefore, it is to your advantage to use the one that best goes along with your particular situation.
This article will include some information on the chronological format as well as the functional format. The type of resume format most people are familiar with is the chronological format. This format is the one which features all of your previous jobs listed as a timeline. It can either be in chronological order or in reverse chronological order.
For most types of jobs the chronological format is considered to be acceptable. Unlike other resume formats, the chronological format really allows the job seeker to showcase how his career has advanced in previous years. The work experience listed on the resume is done so as a timeline so it is very easy to see when a job seeker has started out at one level and advanced to another level during the course of his work experience.
The functional format of a resume may be the best option for some people. Job seekers who have not worked at any one company for a substantial amount of time may turn to the functional format because it allows them to call attention to the type of work they have done not where they have worked or for whom they have worked.
Regardless of which of the resume formats you choose, care should be taken to ensure the resume is well written. It should be free of spelling and grammatical errors. The language should also be clear and should summarize your experience and skills in a concise manner. This is important because the format you use is not nearly as important as the information on the resume.
