Job Boards: Then and Now

How different would life be today without job search sites? That thought crosses my mind every once in a while, and I must say I’m quite thankful the job search process has become as easy as it is today.

Today, the online job search is the primary method used by job seekers. It’s so simple nowadays to just go online and sift through the many possibilities posted for you.

These job search sites have gone through many changes over the year, making them even easier to navigate than in the past. Simply log on to your preferred job web site, and type in the criteria you want to search. You can list as many or as few categories as you’d like.

These popular job search tools came into existence during my late-teen years. So I can still applying for my first few jobs the old-fashioned way. I’d hand out my resume locally or rely on my family and friends to do the legwork for me.

As a teenager, I got my first job through networking with my parents’ colleagues and local business owners. Now I’d like to know if people still use those types of methods. I’m guessing so, but it’s probably not as frequent.

Then I think about my first experience using job search sites, and they’ve come a long way since then. Just a decade ago, job boards were so simple and pretty much just appeared like a web version of classified ads.

Since then, job web sites have become so robust and interactive. They serve as a buffer between job seeker and employer. Before, you were just able to find job listings, but then you’d have to contact the employer directly.

Some people go through most of the hiring process via job web sites. It’s truly amazing how these tools have evolved, and I know they’ll continue to progress in the future.

If you’re looking to read more about how to find a job and helpful tips, including job web sites and job search sites, then keep on reading because there’s much more information.
